What Are Dental Crowns?

Unlike dentures or partial dentures, bridges are permanently cemented in the mouth and can only be removed by your dentist.

Missing teeth can often cause problems with chewing or speaking, not to mention be esthetically unpleasing. Additionally, if missing teeth are not immediately replaced, adjacent teeth may begin to shift into the open space, which can be difficult to correct in the future.

What's a Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a way for Dr. Rogers and Dr. Gripentrog to replace a missing tooth. At Gallery Park Dental you can get this appliance if you want to replace one or more teeth but don't want to wear dentures or commit to surgery for permanent dental implants.

Your new tooth is held in place by two crowns. It looks natural and consists of a ceramic or porcelain material to match the surrounding teeth.

Missing teeth can often cause problems with chewing or speaking, and they also don't look very good to other people. If you don't immediately replace missing teeth, the teeth around the open space tend to shift toward it.

Bridges correct your bite, which improves your chewing and speech. It also improves your cosmetic appearance by keeping your facial features from collapsing and making you look old ahead of your time.

What's the Process for Getting a Bridge?

For a traditional fixed bridge, you'll come to two different appointments, and there are a few steps:

1. First, Dr. Rogers or Dr. Gripentrog takes specific notes about the size, shape, and color of your teeth. You'll also let us take impressions of the teeth all around the area with the missing tooth.

2. Then, our Gallery Park Dental team sends your information to a licensed dental ceramist at a special lab. There, a dental ceramist makes a high-quality replacement tooth for you.

3. After we receive your bridges from the lab, you'll come back to our Glenview dentist's office. Then, Dr. Rogers or Dr. Gripentrog will place your permanent dental bridge on the two teeth surrounding the missing tooth.

Meet Drew Gripentrog, DMD

Education & Experience

Dr. Drew Gripentrog completed his undergraduate education at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa with a major in biological sciences.

He went on to earn a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in Alton, Illinois and continued his education by completing a one-year General Practice Residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

There, he received advanced training in:

IV sedation

Implant dentistry

Endodontics

Special needs dentistry

Dr. Gripentrog strives to stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field and is committed to providing excellence in dentistry to his patients.

He serves as Section Head of General Dentistry in the General Practice Residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he also holds medical staff privileges. He is also an adjunct professor at UIC College of Dentistry.

Meet Quinn Kropf, DMD

Background & Education

Dr. Quinn Kropf was born and raised in Burlington, Vermont. After leaving the Green Mountain State, he went on to attend Boston College, earning his BA degree in Psychology and Philosophy. While completing prerequisite coursework at the University of Vermont to apply to Dental School, he worked as a social worker serving children and families through the local school system. He completed his dental school training at the University of Connecticut, receiving his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.

After graduating from dental school, he moved away from the Northeast to the great city of Chicago to complete a one-year general practice residency program at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. There he received advanced training in:

In his spare time, Dr. Kropf enjoys exploring the city of Chicago, catching a concert or a sports game, fishing, and hiking. He also enjoys spending time in the kitchen trying new recipes! Although an avid fan of the Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox, and Green Bay Packers, Dr. Kropf has been known to catch a game at Soldier Field or Wrigley Field from time to time, and even allegedly cheered for the Bears (once).
