Types of Oral Surgery
at Gallery Park Family and Pediatric Dentistry
At Gallery Park Family and Pediatric Dentistry, we provide a range of oral surgery procedures designed to improve your dental health and overall well-being.
Dr. Gripentrog and Dr. Rogers bring extensive experience and a gentle touch to every procedure, ensuring you receive the highest quality care in a comfortable environment.
Tooth extraction is one of the most common types of oral surgery we perform at Gallery Park Dental. While we always aim to save your natural teeth whenever possible, there are times when an extraction is the best option to protect your overall oral health.
Tooth extraction might be necessary if you’re dealing with severe tooth decay, advanced gum disease, dental trauma, or complications with wisdom teeth. In some cases, extractions are also recommended to prepare your mouth for dentures or other prosthetic devices.
When it comes to wisdom teeth, many dentists, including Dr. Gripentrog and Dr. Rogers, recommend extraction as a preventative measure. Removing these teeth can help reduce your risk of cavities, bone loss, and other potential issues down the road.
Our goal is always to ensure your comfort and long-term health, making tooth extractions a safe and effective solution when needed.
Tooth Extraction FAQs
Do I need a tooth extraction?
If you’re suffering from an infection, a high risk of infection for a tooth, an impacted wisdom tooth, or a severely damaged tooth, you may need your tooth extracted. If you have any of these issues, don’t hesitate to reach out to our Glenview team.
Are tooth extractions safe?
Yes, teeth extractions are safe! Our doctors have performed hundreds of successful teeth extractions. If you are experiencing pain or have a severely damaged, impacted, or infected tooth, contact us right away.
Our Gallery Park Dental team will perform an exam and take X-rays to assess the condition of your tooth for a safe, effective procedure. We also offer various sedation options to ensure your comfort during treatment.
How much do tooth extractions cost?
The cost of your teeth extraction can vary. It depends on how many teeth you need to have pulled, whether sedation is used, and there may be other cost factors, as well.
If you need to have any teeth pulled, our Gallery Park Team team would be happy to discuss your options. We will talk to you about the insurance plans we accept and the other payment and financing plans available.
At Gallery Park Dental, we believe in providing the most reliable and long-lasting solutions for missing teeth.
Dental implants are a top choice for many of our patients. These small, sturdy posts, made from medical-grade titanium or zirconia, are placed into your jaw to act as replacement roots.
Once fully healed, we can restore your smile with natural-looking crowns, bridges, or dentures, giving you a strong, confident smile that lasts.
If you’re dealing with moderate to severe gum disease, Dr. Gripentrog or Dr. Rogers may recommend periodontal surgery — or gum disease treatment — to restore your oral health.
A gum disease procedure involves gently lifting the gum tissue to thoroughly clean the roots of your teeth, removing plaque and bacteria that have built up below the gum line.
Once your teeth are clean, the gum tissue is carefully repositioned and sutured, helping to prevent further damage and promote healing.
Gum recession can sometimes be a side effect of advanced gum disease. To protect your teeth and improve your gum health, a gum graft may be necessary.
During this procedure, we use donor tissue to reinforce areas where your gums have receded. This tissue can come from the roof of your mouth or a certified tissue bank, helping to restore your smile and protect your teeth from further damage.
Bone loss in the jaw can occur when teeth are missing for an extended period or due to advanced gum disease.
At Gallery Park Dental, we offer bone grafting to restore the strength and density of your jawbone. This procedure is especially important if you’re considering dental implants, as it ensures a solid foundation for the implants.
Sometimes, we may perform a bone graft during periodontal surgery to stabilize your teeth and keep your smile healthy and strong.
Oral Surgery FAQs
At Gallery Park Dental, oral surgery refers to a range of procedures that address complex dental issues beyond the scope of general dentistry.
Oral surgery not only helps to alleviate pain and restore function but also plays a crucial role in improving your overall dental health. We're here to ensure your comfort and provide the expert care you deserve.
Oral surgery treats a number of different issues. Dr. Gripentrog or Dr. Rogers might recommend oral surgery if you have:
- Damaged teeth
- Extensive tooth decay
- Gum disease
- Missing teeth
- Bone loss
- Impacted teeth (especially wisdom teeth)
Before your oral surgery at Gallery Park Dental, you’ll have a consultation with Dr. Gripentrog or Dr. Rogers.
During this visit, we’ll discuss your specific needs, review your medical history, and take any necessary X-rays or scans. This helps us plan your procedure and ensure everything goes smoothly.
We’ll also talk you through the process, answer any questions you have, and provide instructions on how to prepare, such as what to eat or drink before surgery.
During your oral surgery, our team’s primary focus is your comfort and safety. Depending on the type of surgery, you may receive local anesthesia, sedation, or general anesthesia to ensure you don’t feel any pain.
Dr. Gripentrog or Dr. Rogers will perform the procedure with precision and care, keeping you informed and comfortable throughout. You can expect a calm, supportive environment where your well-being is our top priority.
The duration of an oral surgery procedure can vary depending on the complexity of the surgery. On average, most procedures take about 1 to 2 hours. However, more complex cases might take longer.
During your consultation, we’ll give you a better idea of how long your specific surgery will take so you can plan accordingly.
After your oral surgery, it’s normal to experience some swelling, discomfort, and minor bleeding.
We’ll provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to help manage these symptoms and promote healing. This might include taking prescribed medications, eating soft foods, and avoiding strenuous activity.
Most patients start to feel better within a few days, but full recovery can take a couple of weeks. We’re always here to support you during your recovery, so don’t hesitate to reach out with any concerns.
Oral surgery coverage can vary depending on your insurance plan. In some cases, dental insurance will cover part or all of the procedure, especially if it’s necessary for your oral health.
For more complex procedures — or if you’ve had an accident and require surgery in a hospital setting — your medical insurance might provide coverage as well.
At Gallery Park Dental, we’ll help you navigate your insurance benefits and discuss all available payment and financing options to make your care as affordable as possible.
